Ms Eilidh Cornwall complained through McKay Norwell Solicitors of Edinburgh that a court report about the murder of Thomas Nicoll was inaccurate when it stated that allegations of sexual abuse made against him had “proved to be unfounded”.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction and apology:

“Our article of 15 December 2007 on the murder of Thomas Nicoll wrongly stated that allegations of sexual abuse against him by Eilidh Cornwall had “proved to be unfounded”. We would like to make clear that the allegations, which Ms Cornwall has not retracted, have never been tested in a court of law. We apologise for the hurt and distress caused to Ms Cornwall by the inaccuracy in our report”.
