Complainant Name:
Partick Thistle FCBC 95s

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Sunday Mail

Complaint:

Ms Jessie Higgins, Secretary of Partick Thistle FCBC 95s, complained that an article about the abandonment of an under-13 match between the club and Celtic Juniors was inaccurate and misleading when it claimed as fact that an alleged racist insult had sparked a violent attack on three of Particks players, resulting in a mass brawl involving 30 parents.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a follow-up article making clear that there was no evidence that any of the Thistle players had made a racist comment and that the Celtic Juniors player was later charged with three assaults. The newspaper also apologised to the club in a footnote for initially blaming a racist remark for the trouble and describing the heated confrontation between parents as a mass brawl.

Report: 77
