Ms Jessie Higgins, Secretary of Partick Thistle FCBC 95s, complained that an article about the abandonment of an under-13 match between the club and Celtic Juniors was inaccurate and misleading when it claimed – as fact – that an alleged “racist insult” had sparked a violent attack on three of Partick’s players, resulting in a “mass brawl” involving 30 parents.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a follow-up article making clear that there was no evidence that any of the Thistle players had made a racist comment and that the Celtic Juniors player was later charged with three assaults. The newspaper also apologised to the club in a footnote “for initially blaming a racist remark for the trouble and describing the heated confrontation between parents as a ‘mass brawl’”.
