Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Barry Sheerman, MP for Huddersfield, complained that an article inaccurately stated that he and his wife had enjoyed a weeks holiday in Thailand after spending £3,000 of taxpayers cash to attend a two-day conference organised by the British Council. In fact, the £3,000 in question had covered only Mr Sheermans flights to and from Thailand as well as his accommodation at the conference.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction and apology under the heading, Barry Sheerman MP:

Further to our article MPs spend £1.2m on foreign trips (Feb 14), we would like to make clear that the taxpayer did not pay for Mrs Sheermans flights or for the couples hotel accommodation when they took a holiday in Thailand following Mr Sheermans attendance at a conference in Bangkok. We apologise for any misunderstanding.
