Complainant Name:
Mr Ian Yarwood

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Mr Ian Yarwood complained that an article was inaccurate and misleading when it claimed that Manchester United and Chelsea fans travelling to the Champions League final in Moscow would be forced to go into fan zones – referred to as ‘gulags’ – for up to eight hours to prevent them from fighting with each other.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper removed the article from its website, amended its records and made a donation to charity in addition to publishing the following correction:

"On May 9 we published an agency report incorrectly saying that fans travelling to the Champions League final in Moscow would be forced to go to ‘gulags’ for up to eight hours to prevent them from fighting each other. In fact, attendance in the fan zones was optional and fans were able to move around freely before the game. We regret any misunderstanding”.
