Complainant Name:
Mr Duncan Selbie

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The People

Complaint:

Mr Duncan Selbie, Chief Executive of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, complained that an article about the Royal Sussex County Hospital contained a number of inaccuracies. In particular, he said that the article claimed as fact that cockroaches, fleas and insects had infested the hospital, whereas although sightings had been reported British Pest Control had not found any cockroaches, fleas or insects on inspection. Nor had any maggots been found. The complainant also emphasised that the hospital had not called BPC for an incident involving a rat since July 2007.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper added the following clarification to the online version of the article:

After British Pest Control inspection of the hospital, no cockroaches, maggots, fleas or insects were found.

Report: 77
