Joanna Rigby of Nottingham complained about an article in which a doctor advised readers to ignore prostate cancer week on the basis that it was a disease which generally affected older men and usually caused no harm. The complainant pointed to examples which suggested that the article had entirely underestimated the severity of the cancer.

The newspaper indicated that it had received a large reaction to the article from readers. It had therefore dedicated a whole page to a follow-up article to address the issues raised which also contained criticism of the original article. The complainant was satisfied that the follow-up article had balanced the impression given in the original article. The complaint was resolved on that basis.
