| Complainant Name: Clauses Noted: 1 Publication: Daily Star Complaint: Mr David Whatton, Assistant Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, complained that the newspaper inaccurately suggested that Police Community Support Officers had “stood and watched” while Jordon Lyons “went under” and subsequently drowned. Resolution: The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apology:
“Last
September we reported on the inquest of Jordon Lyon who drowned saving his sister. We stated that two Police Community
Support Officers 'stood and watched as
the brave lad went under'. We wish to make clear that
the PCSOs arrived only after Jordon disappeared from view and apologise
for any distress our report may have caused”.
