Complainant Name:
Mr Ian Cooper

Clauses Noted: 1, 3, 5, 6

Publication: Metro

Mr Ian Cooper of Cambridgeshire complained about the newspapers coverage of his daughters fall from a hotel balcony and of his wifes subsequent death. He was particularly concerned that the newspaper had reported his daughter as having severe and serious head injuries, which was not the case, and had used a picture of his daughter to illustrate its coverage.

The newspaper expressed sympathy for the complainants situation. It explained that the information about his daughters injuries had been published in good faith. The editor said he would respect the complainants request for sensitive coverage of any further developments and confirmed that photographs of the complainants daughter would only be re-used if he personally considered there to be a pressing justification.
