Complainant Name:
Retailers Against Crime

Clauses Noted: 10

Publication: Scottish Sun

Ms Maxine Fraser of Retailers Against Crime complained that the newspaper had published its confidential newsletter, having received it from an individual who was not authorised to remove it from his place of work.

The newspaper said it had received the document from a source it could not identify and said that none of its journalists had used subterfuge to obtain the material. However, taking into account the spirit of the Code, it agreed not to republish the information that had appeared. The editor also assured the complainant that the newspaper would not go out of its way to publish Retailers Against Crime documents in the future and would only do so if there was a public interest. The complaint was resolved by these steps.
