Complainant Name:
A man/Legal Services Commission

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

A man and – following the Commission’s invitation – the Legal Services Commission complained that a feature was inaccurate and misleading when it stated that “no reason was given” for the withdrawal of legal aid funding for MMR litigation in September 2003.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper removed the phrase from the online version of the article and published the following clarification:

'Our feature “The debate that won’t go away” (26 May) stated that legal aid was withdrawn for MMR litigation in September 2003 and that “no reason was given”. In fact, the Legal Services Commission at the time stated that medical research had yet to prove a conclusive link between the MMR vaccine and Autistic Spectrum Disorder and, in those circumstances, litigation was very likely to fail. We are happy to make this clear’.
