Michael Ridley of Parsonage Farm in Sevenoaks complained that a photograph of two ponies tied to his lorry with a caption reading The BHSs new guidelines advise against leaving horses unattended while tied to a horse box at a show inaccurately suggested that the ponies had been left unattended.

The newspaper published the following apology and correction in response to the complaint which was resolved on that basis.

Apology: In last weeks news story Conduct guide set up for competitors about the BHSs new code of conduct we used a photograph which appeared to show two ponies tethered to a horsebox and left unattended. We accept this was totally misleading and that the ponies in the photograph were not left unattended and were being fully monitored.

We apologise unreservedly to the horsebox owner Mr Mike Ridley and to Mr Ian Lane and Mrs Charlotte Adams-Lane, owners of the two ponies in the photograph, for any distress this may have caused.
