Complainant Name:
Mr James Morgan

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Express

Complaint:

Mr James Morgan of Peterhead complained that an article about his health was inaccurate and misleading when it stated that his wife, after searching on the internet, had found the surgeon who would go on to perform a successful life-saving operation on him.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following letter from the complainant:

“I refer to the November 5, 2007 article headed 'Heaven can wait' and wish to point out an inaccuracy in the article. It stated that my wife Alison had searched the internet to find a heart surgeon willing to carry out life saving surgery. This was after two surgeons had refused to carry out the surgery as they said I was too ill to survive the major surgery required. In fact the heart surgeon Ciro Campanella was found due to the hard work, dedication and sterling efforts of the Liver Transplant Team at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and in particular Mr. Ernest Hidalgo, my liver transplant surgeon. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank them for their efforts without which I would not be alive today”.
