Complainant Name:
Mrs Mary Burnside

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Chat

Mrs Mary Burnside of Darlington complained that an article about her husbands heart transplant had been published as part of the magazines Your health spread, which set out to readers that they would be paid to tell their health story. The complainant had not received any payment for the story, and was concerned that readers would be misled into believing otherwise.

While the editor did not accept that readers would have been misled, the complaint was resolved when the magazine undertook to publish a clarification in the following terms:

Mrs Mary Burnside of Darlington has asked us to point out that she did not receive any payment for her story which was printed in Chat issue no. 13.

The magazine also made a donation to the Butterwick Hospice.
