Complainant Name:
Mr Ant McPartlin and Mr Declan Donnelly

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Star

Complaint:

Mr Ant McPartlin and Mr Declan Donnelly complained, through Swan Turton solicitors, that two articles were inaccurate. The first wrongly suggested that Mr Donnelly was dating the singer Poppy Middleditch. The second wrongly suggested that Mr McPartlin and Mr Donnelly regularly attended a strip club and held business meetings there.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apologies:

‘On 13 July we published an article in our paper and on our website an article with the headline, “Dec to Poppy the Question?”. The article claimed that Dec and Poppy Middleditch of the band Tumbling Dice had met through mutual friends, had started a relationship together and that Dec was even contemplating proposing marriage. We now accept that that is not the case and apologise to Dec for any embarrassment caused.’

‘In our edition of 3 August we published an article featuring an interview with a lapdancer called “Sasha” who claimed that Ant & Dec were regular visitors with business clients to the Secrets Nightclub in Hammersmith. We now accept that they were not, and apologise to Ant & Dec for any embarrassment caused.’
