Complainant Name:
The Proctor Family

Clauses Noted: 1, 5

Publication: Sunday Mail

The Proctor family of Glasgow complained that the newspaper’s coverage of their brother Morgan’s murder was inaccurate and insensitive. The complainants were concerned that the article contained a graphic account of Morgan’s injuries. They also argued that the published comments of one local inaccurately implied that their brother – as the ‘older’ man – had initiated the violence with a knife. Finally, they said that the coverage inaccurately implied that their brother had been part of a gang.

The newspaper undertook to report on the matter fully – and clarify Morgan Proctor’s role – when the case went to trial. It also annotated its records with the points of the complaint. The complainants accepted this action and undertaking as a resolution to their concerns.

Report: 77
