Complainant Name:
Ms Heather Mills

Clauses Noted: 1, 3, 4

Publication: London Lite

Ms Heather Mills complained that the newspaper had published a diary item about a time she visited a gallery with a friend. The article inaccurately implied that the two were a couple. It was illustrated by a photograph taken inside the gallery, which the complainant found intrusive. The complainant was also concerned that she was followed by photographers when she left.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper which made clear that the photographer it used did not follow the complainant undertook to be more vigilant about the background of photographs of the complainant submitted to its picture desk, removed the article from its website and published the following apology:

On 11th November we published a story about a visit to the Tate Gallery by Heather Mills and her friend Marc Sinden. We apologise for any distress the publication of the photograph caused her and are happy to clarify that the two are not romantically linked.
