Complainant Name:
A woman

Clauses Noted: 9

Publication: News of the World

A woman complained that an article had named her when reporting on her husbands conviction for downloading child pornography.

The newspaper argued that the complainant was genuinely relevant to the article because the court had referred to her husbands wife. However, given the circumstances of the case, it gave an undertaking that it would not name the complainant in a story about her husband in any future articles (unless in exceptional circumstances) and marked its records to this effect. The complaint was resolved on that basis.
