Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Complaint:

Mr Geoff Wade of the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore complained that an interview with author Gavin Menzies was inaccurate when it claimed that both his books – 1421 and 1434 – would “be part of Key Stage 3 history for 11-14 year-olds”.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper – which removed the reference from the online version of the article – published the following clarification:

‘Contrary to claims contained in our Aug 1 interview (“Mad as a snake – or a visionary”), Gavin Menzies’ books 1421 and 1434 are not specified as part of the syllabus for Key Stage 3 History’.

Report: 78
