Complainant Name:
Nicola Maasdam

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: OK! Magazine

Nicola Maasdam of Northeast Lincs complained that the front cover of the magazine was misleading. She raised concerns that the photograph of Jordan without her wedding ring, and the quotations which accompanied it, would have misled readers to believe that she had split up with her husband. She further raised concerns that the front cover described actress Wendy Richard as dying when the text of the article itself made clear that this was not the case.

The magazine defended the content of the front cover on the following basis: that there had been a lot of speculation about Jordans marriage and the article addressed these rumours; and that the description of Wendy Richards situation was not misleading given the serious nature of her medical condition.

That said, the editor said she had taken on board the concerns expressed by the complainant and would bear them in mind for future editions of the magazine. She also offered the complainant a six month subscription to the magazine. The complaint was resolved on that basis.
