Complainant Name:
Mr Mike Webb

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Times

Complaint:

Mr Mike Webb, the Town Clerk of Dover Council, complained that the newspaper inaccurately suggested that a conman, posing as a member of the band Status Quo, had fooled the council. He made clear that the council as a whole was not fooled, spent no money on the matter and did not use any council vehicles.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper made a donation to charity and published the following letter:

Further to your comment piece (Dover’s dodgy status symbol, November 16) about Dover Town Council and a man posing as Status Quo’s Francis Rossi, I would like to make it clear the Council did not spend any money on this matter and there was no unauthorised use of council vehicles.

Report: 78
