Dr. Jonathan M. Levitt of London complained that a report on a study conducted by researchers at the School of Computing and Information Technology (University of Wolverhampton) was misleading. The complainant said that despite Prof. Thelwall the second author of the research advising the publication that Dr. Levitt had written the article, and being assured that Dr. Levitt would be named as the main author, the report failed to include this information or even mention Dr. Levitt.

The complaint was resolved when the publication published the following letter:

A cite for citation study

Further to the article Ref could punish those working across disciplines (2 October), we wish to clarify that the study was conducted by Jonathan Levitt with the help of Mike Thelwall. The study, part of Levitts doctoral research at Wolverhamptons Statistical Cybermetrics Research Group, has just been published in the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (Levitt, J.M. and Thelwall, M. Is multidisciplinary research more highly cited? A macro-level study, 2008, 59 (12), 1973-1984).
