Complainant Name:
The Camp for Climate Action

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Following the Press Complaints Commission’s adjudication against the Evening Standard, The Camp for Climate Action complained that an article about the 2007 August camp at Heathrow had referred misleadingly to concern that militant groups planned to break through the perimeter fence and leave hoax packages.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper attached the following clarification – and a link to the Commission’s ruling on the Evening Standard coverage – to the online version of the article:

On 18 August 2007 an article headlined ‘Militants planning Heathrow break-in’ reported that anarchists were planning to hijack a climate change protest at Heathrow airport. While there were concerns that some were planning extreme measures, there was no evidence that any militant groups planned to break through the perimeter fence or leave hoax packages in halls. We are happy to make this clear.
