Complainant Name:
Mr David Holloway

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Record

Complaint:

Mr David Holloway complained that an article was inaccurate and misleading when it stated that he “claimed to be a PGA professional” and “billed himself as a PGA pro” when promoting a golfing holiday company. The complainant stated that he had fully qualified as a PGA professional in Germany and had been a member of the German PGA from 1996 to 2005. In addition, he had not fled from Scotland to Thailand, as the article claimed, but rather had flown to Austria to commence employment.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper – which emphasised that the complainant was not currently a member of the PGA – placed the following note on the online version of the article:

Mr David Holloway has asked us to point out that he did not “flee to Thailand”, as stated above, but instead he moved to Austria to take up the offer of employment.
