Complainant Name:
Classwatch

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Mail on Sunday

Complaint:

Angus Drever, Managing Director of Classwatch, complained that an article was inaccurate and misleading when it claimed that – after investigation by the Information Commissioner’s Office – schools had been told to “switch off” the CCTV provided by the company.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following letter from the complainant:

On February 8 you misrepresented the success of Classwatch CCTV systems in raising teaching standards and protecting children from bullying and bad behaviour. Our systems help safeguard teachers against false accusations and violence and provide an effective professional training tool. Far from banning cameras and investigating Classwatch, the Information Commissioner’s Office has been working with us to develop a code of practice for schools to use our cameras responsibly, under control of the teacher, while respecting the privacy and integrity of staff, pupils and parents.

Report: 79
