Complainant Name:
Mr Richard Everard

Clauses Noted: 1, 5

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Mr Richard Everard of Loughborough complained that a report of the inquest into the death of judge William Everard was inaccurate and intrusive into the familys grief when it claimed that the deceased had stumbled into a stream after a nights drinking. The complainant said that the judge had spent the evening in a pub eating dinner drinking two pints of beer and half a glass of wine and that the suggestion that he stumbled was speculative.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper which stood by the accuracy of the report nonetheless recognised that the article had caused distress to the family and therefore removed the article from its website.

Report: 79
