Complainant Name:
Mrs Nadine Stavonina de Montagnac

Clauses Noted: 1, 12

Publication: Daily Mail

Mrs Nadine Stavonina de Montagnac of Birmingham complained that one article reporting on a Common Culture Committee inquiry into lapdancing clubs at which she had given evidence had contained the inaccurate claim that she was an ex-sex industry worker, while another had included discriminatory comments about her accent. The complainant explained that she had been a lapdancer many years previously. However, the coverage had failed to mention that she was autistic, which accounted for the pedantic way in which she spoke. Nor had it made clear that she was a classically-trained composer, an artist and an award-winning screenwriter, as well as being the founder of the autistic culture movement.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper deleted the reference to the complainant as an ex-sex industry worker from the online version of the first article, and removed the second piece from its website.
