Ms Emma Mulquiney, a resident of Victoria, Australia, complained that an article about the bushfires in the region and particularly its headline was insensitive in a manner which breached Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock) of the Code.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper which apologised to the complainant for any offence caused published the following apology in its next edition:

Last weeks story, written before the full extent of the fires was known, carried a headline which was inappropriate. We apologise to readers who were offended and are making a donation to the Australian Bushfires Appeal.
