Complainant Name:
Mr E Moss-Wright JP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Complaint:

Mr E Moss-Wright JP of Lincoln complained that an article about the newspaper’s campaign for a national memorial to Bomber Command contained the inaccurate claim that there was currently no such memorial. In fact, there was a memorial at Lincoln Cathedral, which had been dedicated in August 2006 in the presence of over 1,500 veterans of Bomber Command.

Resolution:

The newspaper indicated that the thrust of its campaign was to remedy the perceived wrong of the absence of a national memorial to Bomber Command in London. It undertook to avoid any suggestion in future coverage that there was no memorial elsewhere in the country, and annotated its internal databases with the existence of the Lincoln memorial. It also reviewed its website coverage with this in mind. The complaint was resolved on that basis.

Report: 79
