Complainant Name:
Ms Fiona McBride

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Sunday Mail

Ms Fiona McBride complained that the newspaper had misrepresented her status as a fingerprint officer and the issues surrounding her dispute with the service, including the employment status of several of her colleagues.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper agreed to publish the following statement:

Fiona McBride

On 22 March we told how fingerprint experts involved in the Shirley McKie scandal continue to give evidence in court. We would like to make clear that six of the experts involved retired after Ms McKie was cleared and their former colleague Fiona McBride has consistently defended her identification of the fingerprint at the centre of the controversy. We described Ms McBride as discredited but a tribunal has decided she was unfairly dismissed by the Scottish Police Services Authority and ordered her reinstatement.
