Publication: Daily Mail

Mr Jabran Soni, Director of the UK College of Arts & Technology, Manchester, complained that an article about the rise of bogus colleges in the UK had made reference to the institution misleadingly. The complainant made clear that the college - which was fully accredited - ran legitimate courses with a strict enrolment and attendance monitoring procedure. It should not, therefore, have been mentioned in the piece.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper - which removed the article from its website and marked its internal records accordingly - published the following letter from the complainant:

Your article ‘Bogus Colleges, the gateway to Britain' (Mail) was right to highlight the fraudulent activities of some colleges. The UK College of Arts & Technology should not however have been included within it. The UK College of Arts & Technology takes great pride in running legitimate, high quality and professional courses. The college has been inspected and approved by the Accreditation Service for International Colleges (ASIC) and is accredited by nationally recognised examination bodies including ABE, Trinity College London, City and Guilds, OCR and NOCN.

Where the immigration status of learners is dependent on their role as a student we operate a strict enrolment and attendance monitoring procedure in conjunction with the Home Office. We have worked hard to oppose the alleged fraudulent and immoral use of education by some providers.
