Complainant Name:
Mr Danny Morrison

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Irish News

Complaint:

Mr Danny Morrison of Belfast complained that a reader's letter about the 1981 hunger strike was inaccurate and misleading when it claimed that documents released under the Freedom of Information Act stated that "republican negotiators, Gerry Adams and Danny Morrison, changed their minds when the British warned that they were going to pull the plug on the process". The complainant said that he had not been named in the documents at all.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following clarification:

A letter in the ‘Irish News' on April 7, 2009, by Mr Richard O'Rawe, discussing the 1981 hunger strike, claimed that documents newly released under the FoI Act stated that ‘republican negotiators, Gerry Adams and Danny Morrison, changed their minds when the British warned that they were going to pull the plug on the process'. We have been asked by Mr Morrison to make clear that he was not named in the documents.
