Edward Rumfitt

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sun

Edward Rumfitt complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article about gang crime in Liverpool had included a photograph of a replica gun, when the article had suggested that the weapon was real.

The newspaper explained that the reporter had no reason to believe that the gun was not real. It said that replica guns can also cause fatal harm and that it had been helping Merseyside Police with tracing the weapon.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper agreed to bring the points raised by the complainant to the attention of the reporter and to keep his concerns in mind for similar articles in future. The complainant sent photographs of replica guns to the newspaper for reference, and the newspaper also noted the complainant's contact details should the need to utilise his expertise in the field arise in future.
