Complainant Name:
Jack Briggs

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Scotsman

Jack Briggs complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which reported his ex-wife's position that he was a violent individual who drank heavily. The complainant said this was wholly inaccurate and the newspaper should have contacted him prior to publishing a claim that was damaging to his reputation.

While the newspaper pointed out that the complainant was not identified in the article and did not accept that there had been a breach of the Code, the complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of the disputed lines from the online article.
