Sheila Kelly complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an insensitive article about the suicide of a member of her extended family which was accompanied by a highly inconsiderate photograph showing the scene where his body had been recovered.

The newspaper acknowledged that the complainant and her family had been upset by the coverage but explained its role in reporting deaths in the community. The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the article's online headline and the removal of the photograph from all of Trinity Mirror's news websites.
