Complainant Name:
Rizwan Ahmed Kiyani

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Times

Rizwan Ahmed Kiyani complained, via Latitude Law, to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which, in his view, contained a number of inaccuracies relating to his business and academic life and details of his UK citizenship.

The newspaper was able to provide a number of documents in support of its coverage and did not accept that the terms of the Editors' Code had been engaged. However, it acknowledged that the article wrongly stated that the complainant had faced "deportation since May 2008" when, in reality, he was being considered for removal from the UK (which involved a slightly different legal process). The complaint was resolved when the newspaper amended the terminology of the online article and placed a note on its database.
