Complainant Name:
Mrs Sue Hodge

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Mrs Sue Hodge complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a photograph of her house, boat house and further property in the context of an article relating to second homes in Helford. She was a fulltime resident in the village and the issues raised in the article did not relate to her in any way, yet an association was implied by the publication of the image of her residence. The complainant found coverage of issues in the village tended to be unbalanced and considered more viewpoints should be reflected in reports.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper stated that it would not republish the image in print or online. It had also taken steps to ensure that the image was removed from any third-party database it may have reached. The newspaper added a note of the complainant's views on the issues raised in the article to its library archives for future reference.
