Mr Andrew Murray

Publication: fishupdate.com

Complaint:

Mr Andrew Murray, son of Sheryll Murray MP, complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article had reported inaccurately that his father Neil Murray had drowned after falling from his vessel while out fishing. In fact, Mr Murray's body had been found on board his boat.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the website published the following correction:

Fishupdate would like to correct the error made regarding, Cornish fisherman Neil Murray, husband of South East Cornwall MP Sheryll Murray. Mr Murray did not drown as suggested in our headline and report of March 28th this year and was actually found on board his vessel.

The initial information was supplied to us in good faith from a normally reliable source and similar reports were carried at the time by a number of other news organisations.

Mr Murray was a highly respected West Country fisherman of long standing, and we would apologise to Mrs Murray and her family for any distress our report may have caused.
