Complaint:

Mr Jonathan Heawood, Director of English PEN, complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article was inaccurate and misleading when it suggested that a visit by the poet Shazea Quraishi to HMP Bulwood Hall was funded by taxpayers; in fact, the visit was funded by the charity.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when - in addition to the removal of the online article - the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification in the newspaper and online:

FURTHER to our article about a visit by the poet Shazea Quraishi to Bullwood Hall Prison, (‘Jailbard', February 28) we have been asked to point out her visit was funded by a charity, English PEN, and not from public funds. We are happy to make this clear.
