Complainant Name:
A woman

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: Scottish News of the World

A woman complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had identified her as a victim of crime in a manner that was inaccurate and intruded into her private life in breach of Clauses 1 (Accuracy) and 3 (Privacy) of the Editors' Code of Practice.

The newspaper did not believe that it had breached the Code, but it had no wish to distress the complainant. The complaint was resolved on the basis of the newspaper's agreement to note on its internal files that the complainant did not wish to be identified in connection with the crime. The newspaper also agreed to ensure that the report, which had only been published in its print edition, would not be published online.
