Complainant Name:
Mr Graham Parkin

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Northern Echo

Mr Graham Parkin complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article reporting on his daughter's death wrongly implied that the family had spoken to the newspaper, and contained inaccuracies in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Code.

The newspaper had already published a correction making clear that the family had not spoken to its reporters, and the complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following additional correction:

"Further to our article of February 16 concerning the death of Teresa Parkin, we would like to make clear that she fell 36ft, not 80ft as reported, and she was not originally from Colburn, North Yorkshire".
