Complainant Name:
Mr James Stocks

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Herald (Glasgow)

Mr James Stocks complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published an article which gave the misleading impression that he had left an island "unannounced" following a theft from a hotel on the island, and implied that he had been guilty of the offence when he had not been.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following statement, in addition to removal of the online article:

Contrary to a statement from Hotel Hebrides reported in good faith in The Herald on February 2, 2010, we have been asked to point out that James Stocks did not leave Harris unannounced following a theft from the hotel.
