Brighton and Hove City Council

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Argus (Brighton)

Brighton and Hove City Council complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a correction on page 20 in relation to an article which had originally appeared on page 2, which he considered to be insufficiently prominent in breach of Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Code.

While the newspaper explained that the correction had been published on the earliest possible page, the complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the re-publication of the correction on page 2:

Squat numbers correction

In yesterday's article "MP's anger at squatters" we stated there were 950 empty council properties in Brighton and Hove. In fact this was the total number of vacant properties in the city. The number of those owned by Brighton and Hove City Council currently stands at 140. A council spokesman said the authority is carrying out considerable refurbishment work on those properties. We apologise for any confusion.
