Richard Mitford-Slade of Pontispool Equine Sports Centre complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the magazine had published an article which misrepresented the state of the ground at Pontispool. He was particularly concerned as the piece was accompanied by a photograph of a jump unique to the venue which had been manipulated so that the ground appeared in poor condition when this was not the case.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following clarification:

Further to the main news item in the July issue of Eventing Magazine concerning withdrawals due to the hard ground, we wish to clarify that the image that accompanied the story was a composite of two photographs and was not intended to represent the state of the ground at Pontispool. We regret any confusion this may have caused. As reported by Rebecca Short: "The organisers did the best they could". Arthur Stevens, the BE steward for Pontispool, reported: "Considering the very dry conditions everything possible had been done to the five courses' approaches, take-offs and landings".
