Mr Robin Pickering, an artist from Devon, complained to the Press Complaints Commission that an article reporting on a display of his paintings at Farringdon Village hall contained a number of inaccuracies.

The matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction in the newspaper:

Further to our article of 14 May (‘Villager's pastels reveal a much-loved way of life'), which reported on a recent art show at Farringdon Village hall, we would like to correct the following inaccuracies: the show did not only ‘include' work by Robin Pickering, but consisted entirely of his art; although Mr Pickering has lived in Devon for 47 years (not 35), he does not reside in Farringdon village; he has not ‘painted all his life' but took it up at the age of 40; he does not ‘come from London' nor has he ever lived there; his work in pastel is not related to explaining country life - he specialises in paintings of Venice and St Ives - and the prices of his work did not ‘start at 40, rising to 550' but began at 395 and rose to 1495. We are happy to clarify the position and apologise for any misunderstandings it may have caused.
