Complainant Name:
Bill Wiggin MP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

Bill Wiggin MP complained to the Press Complaints Commission that a diary item which referred to him contained inaccuracies, particularly a reference in the online headline to him as an "expenses cheat".

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the amendment of the online headline and the publication of the following text online:

The original headline to this article referred to Bill Wiggin MP as an "expenses cheat". We have been asked to make clear that the Standards and Privileges Committee concluded, on the balance of probabilities, that Mr Wiggin had claimed for expenditure he did not incur; there was no suggestion of deliberate dishonesty on his part. The headline has been amended accordingly.
