Mr Irving Bernard complained to the Press Complaints Commission about an article reporting on the tragic death of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Alan Bernard after they were hit by a car. The complainant was concerned that the article contained gratuitous and upsetting details about the incident.

The newspaper explained that the information had been taken from court proceedings, in which the driver of the car was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving. While it did not accept that the article was in breach of the Code, the matter was resolved when the PCC negotiated the removal of certain details from the online article.
