Complainant Name:
Neil Turner

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Complaint:

Neil Turner complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had inaccurately reported that a British rowing team had reached the "North Pole" and the "magnetic North Pole" when, in fact, these locations were hundreds of miles from the spot they did reach: the location of the pole as it was mapped in 1996.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper arranged for the online article to be amended to correctly report that the adventurers had rowed to the 1996 magnetic North Pole and the PCC negotiated the publication of the following printed statement:

Further to "On top of the world: British team first to row to North Pole" (Aug 27), we wish to make clear that Jack Wishart's expedition was to the position of the magnetic pole as certified in 1996.
