Mr Phil Croft complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had incorrectly claimed that his son had been jailed for trying to hijack a taxi driver's cab.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following statement in the newspaper and as an addendum to the online article:

In an article on May 28, we reported that Dean Croft, 22, of Woodville, had been jailed after an attack on a taxi driver. The headline and a paragraph in the article referred to an attempt to hijack the victim's cab. It has since been pointed out that Croft's 27-month prison sentence was imposed for robbery rather than attempting to hijack the vehicle, although police stated at the time of the offence he had tried to steal the car. We are happy to set the record straight.
