The London Borough of Sutton complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper had published a report criticising the council's decision to employ a new department head while other employees face redundancy which contained a number of inaccuracies.

The complaint was resolved with the publication of the following correction, both in print and online:

Our article of 29 July headlined "Yet another fat cat gets to ride on the council gravy train" reported the employment of a new department head at Sutton Council and referred to the closure of care homes and soaring council tax. We have been asked to make clear that only one care home has closed in the area and any potential tax increase has been described by the council as "modest". It is also now likely that council tax will be frozen next year. We are happy to set the record straight.
