Complainant Name:
Elaine Deering

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Birmingham Mail

Elaine Deering complained to the Press Complaints Commission that the newspaper's website contained three articles (published a year prior to her contacting the PCC) which contained a number of errors. In particular, she was concerned that the coverage stated that she had sold her deceased brother's war medals to fund a holiday cruise when this was not the case.

The newspaper explained that a number of news sources had reported the selling of medals around the time of publication and the article had remained online for a long period of time without complaint. The newspaper provided reporter's notes in support of its position that the coverage was correct. While no breach of the Code was accepted, as a gesture of goodwill the articles were removed.
